Music in Ukraine
We present a quite rare type of contemporary Ukrainian music called Klezmorim or Klezmer music which comprises Yiddish European tradition of mixing Jewish music with that of the local, such as traditional Ukrainian, Moldavian, Romanian, Polish, Turkish, Russian etc. Klezmer musicians traditionally played at the weddings and funerals but that custom was lost after the Holocaust times. Nowadays this music can be heard mostly in clubs, during the Klezmer and other Folklore festivals and concerts.
Odessa Folkland Klezmer Band has been playing together since 1993 and has acquired lots of concert, club and festival experience including Klezmer festivals in Lviv, Kyiv and Kharkiv . Annual participants and Laureates of Odessa Klezmer fest have recorded 2 CDS and are working on their third one.
